QUICK MITTS

Materials:
One skein worsted weight yarn and one skein of sport weight yarn. The strands are used together as one strand.This mitt is a good scrap user-upper. Use one color of the heavier yarn and vary the sport colors or vice versa. I used two strands of Wool-Ease and they were fine.

Size 8 double pointed needles

Gauge:
4 sts = 1 inch in stockinette stitch

Fits teenager or small adult

Cast on 24 sts and divide onto 3 double pointed needles ( 8-8-8)

Rib:
Knit 1, purl 1 for 20 rounds. On the 20th round, increase 4 sts evenly spaced. (28 sts total)
Knit 11 rounds even.
Next Rnd: K1, k5 and place these 5 sts on stitch holder or scrap yarn. Knit around.
Next Rnd: K1, cast on 5 sts. Knit around.
Knit 22 rounds.

Decrease for Top:
K2, k2tog around.
Knit 2 rounds
K1, k2tog around
Knit 2 rounds
K2tog around
Cut yarn leaving a 10-12� length and draw through remaining sts. Tighten and weave in end on wrong side.

Thumb:
Place the 5 sts from holder onto dpn. Pick up and knit 5 sts on opposite side plus 1 st each at corners. (12 sts total)
Knit 14 rounds.
K2tog around. Finish as for body of mitten.

For larger mitts, use #10 dpn�s for a gauge of 3.5 sts = 1 inch and increase the number of rnds between Rib & Thumb to 13 rnds. You may need to also increase the length of the mitten between thumb and top of mitten.
